Wanted: Word for the Year for 2011

21 Jan

“Every new year, I choose some guide words”, blogs Danielle LaPorte at white hot truth. “The New Year Word Thing is a lovely exercise in contrast, and contrast is an excellent navigational tool.” So she picked Up. Faith. and Big Sun Love.

Last month, we published the “word-keys” that unlocked the work of some of our favourite writers… but why should they stick to just one word?

Linguists with the American Dialect Society voted ‘app’ the word of 2010. (“Tweet” was the word of 2009 and “google” the word of the decade.)

The New Oxford American Dictionary dubbed “refudiate” the word of 2010, following it’s 2009 word “unfriend.”

We’d love to see LITERACY embraced as the word of 2011 – mostly because we like the pictures here.
